Security and Fraud Awareness Policy
1. Mission & Defense Architecture
This Security and Fraud Awareness Policy ("Fraud Awareness Policy") educates all users and merchants on identifying, preventing, and reporting fraudulent schemes common to cross-border peer-to-peer (P2P) currency trading.
Paytali integrates institutional-grade security safeguards:
- 100% Merchant Collateral Escrow: Merchants must deposit real recourse cash collateral in NGN or XOF before publishing ads or accepting orders;
- Smile ID Biometric Verification: Every counterparty undergoes automated facial liveness checks and national database identity validation;
- Zero Bilateral Contact Leakage: Personal phone numbers, home addresses, and emails are never exposed to counterparties;
- Clerk Enterprise Authentication: Multi-factor authentication (MFA) and anomaly-based session protection across all logins.
2. Common P2P Scam Vectors & How to Avoid Them
Fraudsters frequently target peer-to-peer currency traders. Be vigilant against the following recognized scam tactics:
A. The "Off-Platform WhatsApp/Telegram" Lure
The Scam: A counterparty sends a message inside an order note or chat inviting you to continue the trade on WhatsApp, Telegram, or via direct phone call, often promising a "better exchange rate" or "lower fees". Once off-platform, the fraudster steals your money with zero recourse.
Protection: NEVER trade off-platform. If a counterparty requests offline communication, take a screenshot, cancel the trade, and report them immediately. Transactions conducted outside Paytali forfeit all collateral protections.
B. The "Fake SMS / Fabricated Receipt" Scam
The Scam: A buyer marks the order as paid and transmits a forged bank receipt screenshot or triggers a spoofed SMS alert that mimics an official bank credit notification, pressuring the merchant to disburse payout immediately.
Protection: NEVER confirm or disburse an order based solely on SMS notifications or buyer-provided screenshots. ALWAYS log directly into your official commercial banking app (or InstaPay portal) and verify that the available cleared balance has actually increased.
C. The "Third-Party Payment & Chargeback" Scam
The Scam: A fraudster uses a compromised, stolen, or unverified bank account belonging to a third party to send you money. Weeks later, the real account holder reports the unauthorized transfer, causing your bank to freeze your account.
Protection: Only accept funds where the sender's bank account name exactly matches the verified user name on Paytali. Reject third-party transfers immediately.
D. The "Impostor Customer Support" Scheme
The Scam: Impostors claiming to be "Paytali Support" or "Paytali Escrow Mediators" message you on social media, Telegram, or email demanding your account password, 2FA codes, or requesting that you send test transfers.
Protection: Paytali staff will NEVER ask for your password, two-factor authentication code, or SMS OTP. Official communications originate strictly from @paytali.com domains or verified in-app tickets.
